As we all know that TikTok has been banned by the Government of India due to the allegations on TikTok of Data Stealing and Sharing. But there is another reason why TikTok was banned. Indian Government also wanted to hit China economically because TikTok had around 80 Million monthly users in India which is a big number. TikTok made big numbers in India, User wise as well as Economically, which made TikTok one of the most used apps in India. It created a big Social Media market in India where many TikTok stars made money by Sponsorships and just making videos on the platform.

TikTok was once banned in the past due to the same allegation of data leaking and it happened again. But this time it seems like it will be a permanent ban. It was a big hit for TikTok stars in India because they made a profession out of this platform and suddenly it’s all gone. But they should not get disheartened because Facebook came to the rescue after the ban of TikTok.

Instagram Reels

Facebook just released its Short Video feature “Reels” on Instagram where users can create a short 15 seconds video with Popular songs, Trends , and Challenges, almost the same concept as TikTok. This new feature lets users create short videos on the app, add different Filters, select Music from the Instagram catalog, and can share it beyond their regular Followers, said Vishal Shah, VP of Products, Facebook.

Shah added that most of the video content, almost 45%, on Instagram is 15 seconds or less. He said that the company realized that stories are not the only place where Creators wanted to share short videos as they wanted them to stick on for longer and be distributed beyond their followers.

India is the fourth country, after Brazil, Germany, and France, where this new feature of Instagram is tested and hopefully can become a success. This feature will start rolling out for the users in India starting at 7.30 PM on 9th July 2020. For this new feature “Reels” Instagram has partnered with many prominent music labels to provide a large collection of songs to users to create interesting and immersive Reels and share with not just their followers but with the whole Instagram community.

Overview of Reels

This new feature “Reels” option is added to the Instagram camera similar to the Boomerang, and the others.

To start users will first need to open the Instagram camera and select Reels to start creating 15 seconds video. Similar to TikTok, Reels provide options like audio from Instagram Music library, speed, effects, and timer.

After recording a Reel, users can simply choose the audience they wish to share their Reel with. Unlike usual Instagram Stories, Reels can be shared in the Explore section and viewed by everyone on the platform.

Reels also provide various AR effects to help users add a unique touch to their videos. To add AR effects users can open Reels camera, click on effects, and then AR effects.

Multiple 15 seconds Reels can also be recorded at once and different effects can be added to each clip. Reels can also be reviewed, deleted, and re-recorded if required.

Similar to TikTok, Reels come with a ‘Use Audio’ option which will let others use your original audio to create their Reels.

How to Create Reels

  • Select Reels at the bottom of the Instagram camera.
  • Click on the Audio option and search for a song from the Instagram music library for your Reel.
  • You can also use your own original audio by simply recording a Reel with it just as TikTok.
  • You can add AR Effect to make your Reel interesting and different from others and also set the timer to record any of your clips hands-free.
  • There’s also an option to speed up or slow down part of the video or audio.
